What To Expect
Welcome to the church of Christ in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We want you to be our guest whether you live in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur, or if you are just passing through.
As quick background information, churches of Christ are autonomous, self-ruled and independent. We do not have a headquarters or home office organizational structure. Some churches of Christ do things a little differently, but they are all trying to restore the New Testament Church in our time.
We strive to be a Bible-centered church, and although we might not do everything right, as Christians we are learning every day. Now letís see what you can expect when you come to worship with us.
"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." (Acts 2:42)
We meet on Sunday morning and Wednesday night and spend some time studying the Bible or a Biblical topic. We have classes for different age groups so that all may learn more of Jesus.
Welcome To Worship
"..... The churches of Christ salute you." (Rom. 16:16)
At the beginning of each service, a member of the congregation, who is the appointed song leader for the day, will stand up and welcome us all to worship.
"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." (Eph. 5:19)
We will sing several songs throughout the worship service. The song leader will tell us what song we are going to sing from the hymn book. The whole congregation sings a cappella (without the accompaniment of musical instruments), and from the heart.
"Pray without ceasing." (1 Thess. 5:17)
A number of prayers will be led by appointed members of the congregation. A member will also publicly read a passage of selected scriptures.
"For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come." (1 Cor. 11:26)
On Sunday morning we will all participate in the Lordís Supper as the New Testament shows us. During this memorial, plates containing unleavened bread will be passed throughout the auditorium. Participants will break off a piece of the bread and eat it, as a symbol of Christ's body. Next trays containing small cups of ďFruit of the VineĒ (grape juice) will be passed out. Participants will take a cup and drink it as a symbol of Christís blood.
If you choose not to participate that is fine, there is no pressure here. We do hope and pray that you will eventually reach a relationship with Jesus Christ where you will want to participate in the Lordís Supper every Sunday.
"Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come." (1 Cor. 16:2)
After the Lordís Supper, we will pass out the contribution bags. The money is used to help us continue to spread Godís Word. As a visitor, you are not obligated to give. You are welcome to do so, but please do not feel pressured to.
"Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine." (2 Tim. 4:2)
The message will usually be given by one of our appointed members or the minister, although occasionally we will have an invited speaker. The sermons preached are designed to help us to understand the Bible and what it teaches us. The preacher will speak on the Old and New Testaments, but his lessons will always be Bible-centered. The preacher, like the rest of us, is a servant of Christ. We are always available to help each other study Godís word.
"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved ....." (Mk. 16:16)
At the end of the lesson, an invitation will be made. Do not feel pressured and do not be alarmed; you will not be singled out or asked to do anything. The invitation is for anyone (including you) who has a need. We are all given the opportunity to respond if we so desire. We can request to be baptized. We can request the prayers of the church. If you have a reason, if you have a need, please feel free to step to the front.
Close Of Worship
We will close the worship service with announcements and then with a closing prayer. Just like anywhere else, some of us will stick around and socialize and some of us will be in a hurry to leave. Please feel free to stick around and talk, you will find us to be a friendly group.
Please Be Our Guest
As our guest we want you to be comfortable. We would like for you to fill out a visitorís card or our guest book, but you are not required to do so. We would also like for you to participate in our worship service, but again, you are not required to do so. Please feel free to be a spectator if you are so inclined.
We hope and pray that you will see us as good Christians on a journey in Godís word. We are not perfect and we donít pretend to be, but we do love Jesus and we are trying to live a life consistent with our beliefs. We hope to see you soon
